HIGH-LEVEL STAKEHOLDERS FORUM ON NIGERIA ELECTRIFICATION PROGRAM.

As a key player in the Power Sector and a major Developer of the NEP Projects, our Managing Director/CEO, Lady Josephine Nwaeze FNSE, and the Legal Adviser/Executive Assistant of the Company, Barr. Ezekiel Ameh, attended the “High-Level Stakeholders Forum on Nigeria Electrification Program (NEP)” on the 19th of May, 2023. The event, organized by the Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria (REAN), was themed CELEBRATING THE SUCCESSES OF THE NIGERIA ELECTRIFICATION PROGRAM AND CHATTING THE WAY FORWARD.

The participation in this event demonstrates the company’s commitment to advancing the course of renewable and clean energy in Nigeria as well as the dedication to staying informed and engaged with the renewable energy sector in Nigeria. This event provides valuable insights into the industry’s current state, upcoming opportunities, and policy developments.

The High-level Stakeholders Engagement had in attendance various renewable energy professionals, Renewable Energy Companies, NEP Developers as well as the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) represented by the Nigeria Electrification Program. In his Opening Address, the President of REAN thanked all present for their attendance and highlighted the various efforts and initiatives of the Association. He further acknowledged and appreciated the immense efforts and achievements of NEP in furtherance of its mandates.

In his own address, Mr. Abba Aliyu, The head, Project Management Unit (PMU) of Nigeria Electrification Program (NEP) appreciated the effort of the stakeholders in contributing to the Successes recorded so far by the Nigeria Electrification Program (NEP). He further acknowledged the immense efforts of his predecessors and Staff of PMU, stating that he only came on board when the achievements have been made.

Speaking further on behalf of the Managing Director of Rural Electrification Agency (REA) who was unavoidably absent, Mr. Abba Aliyu gave various sectorial reports and strategic updates in respect of issues falling within the purview of NEP.

During the interactive session, stakeholders shared their experiences participating in NEP programs and applauded the efforts of the NEP/PMU Staff in guiding them through stringent pre-qualification requirements.

Major suggestions made included the need to advise funding agencies like World Bank to review the unnecessary financial requirements for qualifying for projects and for a certain percentage of projects to be reserved for local companies as a matter of policy.

The common understanding was that such policy would have the effect of promoting local businesses which are the drivers of the national economy.
